Sneak Peek: Auckland for iWeb

September 17, 2008

I shouldn’t do this because it always generates 100 emails asking when it’ll be ready ;-) This is a new iWeb theme I’ve been working on… this one is unique. I figured out how to get the user CSS file working for themes. What does that mean to you? It means you can change the styles of the navigation menu without editing the theme XML. Want a different font? Want a different color? You can entirely redesign that nav menu if you know a little CSS :)

Tabouli PRO Update Released
Tabouli, Lightside and Aerolite for RapidWeaver

  • I was wondering what goodies you have been working on. Hope you mom is doing well with her recovery.

  • Hey there Kari :) Yeah what happened was, I started 10 projects and had them all going at once together. Here’s one of the other ones:

    Lightside for Rapidweaver!

It’s almost complete. My demo still has some Tabouli remnants in it. I’m making theme styles at the moment.

What’s new down there in hurricane alley??? We’re of course, preparing for snow :-/

  • Very nice, CSS is a powerful little code word, it is it is. Good looking themes you got coming down the pike :)

    Sigh, snow would be nice.

  • Snow? You’ve obviously been living in New England now too long :-O I’m not a fan of summer at all - perpetual autumn would be my first choice for perma-season, but there is something to be said for the great energy that comes with the change of seasons. I don’t mind winter as long as it doesn’t get wet, slushy and sloppy. Yuck. The cold is fine, the mess is, well, a mess :-/

  • I agree with Ken, snow does sound nice. Not the wet, slushy, sloppy kind. But a break in the 90+ weather.

We have been lucky in that the storms have bypassed us so far. My in-laws in Houston weren’t as lucky. I think they will be back home this weekend sometime.

  • Love the red white and blue colors…. it’s a bit commercial looking for my needs, but still great work!

  • ooooooh, I gotta see this :)

  • oooh, I gotta see this :)

  • When will it be ready? ;-) Just kidding. Looks great though!

  • OMG. Perfect for a business site I want to create! I can’t wait to get this one. (uh,need a beta-tester?)

Meanwhile, Solingo was perfect for my Ready Academy project. (www.readyacademy.com). We raised nearly $1000 for a local elementary school and people were impressed with the quality of the website. I was impressed with how easy the template was to update.

    Thanks again,

  • Suzanne, that really is a nice looking theme and something that I think iWeb is lacking…a business style theme.

I am just venturing into the world of theme editing and am very close to publishing my first one, but it is nothing as advanced as this. I know a lot more about css than iWeb theme editing and noticed early on that the navbar section of the theme on each page is (almost) css so that was the easy part for me.

    Keep up the good work.

  • That’s right - the navigation menu is constructed primarily through CSS which is nice. The comment sections of the blog and photo pages are also CSS. The rest of it tho is that proprietary XML ugh.

In a coming release, you will be able to create your own themes much more easily - similarly to the way you can create themes for Pages, but I can see that they have to figure out how to bridge the traditional HTML/CSS work with the XML framework that iWork apps use. Interesting challenge for sure. Glad I’m not the developer :D
