Hi Suzanne,

Thanks for the fast reply! And for all the informations you put on this site, it helped me a lot today.

I did find the solution however an hour ago and didn't find the time to update my comment. I used to know quite a bit about CSS... but am a bit rusty and was being lazy!

Thanks again for the help.

Hi Fabien,

For iWeb 2.0, the navigation menu styles are ALWAYS found in the area of the XML entitled:

<bl:navbar-css>

It's usually going to be clumped together in one massive blob of CSS code unless you get one of my these where I bothered to split it up so I could see it clearly. You have to know a bit about CSS to make the changes here and I'll cover this topic in an upcoming article when Auckland is released.

For the time being, remember that changing the template ONLY changes the template. It does not change any page that already exists in your site. To view your changes, you have to create a new page.

Fabien if you want to send me, via email, the CSS code from the theme you're editing, and let me know exactly what you're trying to change, including the exact color, I can help you.

Send it to the email address contact@ and the domain of this web site.

Hi there, I've got the same problem than Amy and can't seems to find the answer anywhere. I just downloaded your Zones theme and am trying to change the color of the navbar to orange to match the rest of the theme. I tried... well almost everything but it doesn't seems to work!

I followed your first advice modifying the xml file of the blank page then tried modifying the com.apple.etc and finally went back to the xml file to change the references to the navbar.

Nothing worked! Can you enlighten me on the way to modify the colours?

Thanks!

Okay sorry for the delay here. Let's get to the bottom of this one. First, some Apple themes have navigation override files associated with them. I did not mention that in my instructions above. Off the top of my head I forget what they're named and where they are, but they aren't hidden. Some poking around will reveal them.

Here's the deal with those files. I'm not entirely sure why Apple created that feature, but it's likely a way to more easily edit navigation styles for themes without having to open up the actual XML. All you do it create an override file or edit the existing one to control the navigation styles.

The theme you're trying to edit may have an override file and if it does, your will have to make your change in that file, or simply delete the file to force the theme to use the styles you've specified in the XML.

You were originally correct by the way, that it's the CSS code you have to edit, not the navbaritem-rollover styles. If an override file exists, change the CSS there. If not, then the CSS in the XML file will control the navigation styles.

See if you can take it from there. Otherwise ping me again with what you've found.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong... I tried with Blog.xml and Blank.xml -- I DID rename the .gz files --

I found "navbaritem-rollover-character-style-default" and changed the colors in the sf:fontColor section (with RGB100 values)... saved, created a new blank page and published and it didn't work.

I just don't want my silly rollovers to be red! LOL

I had gotten to the other file I told you about previously and in there was sstandard CSS referring to the navigation, that's why I thought it was the right place.

Nope, that's not the file Amy. If you want to change the navigation colors for the Baby Welcome page, for example, the location of that file would be:

Contents/Resources/Themes/Baby/Shared/Welcome.xml

I don't know how you got into that other file.

Suzanne,

Thanks! I don't know why I missed it the first time around... I also think I was looking for it to update what was already posted, and it didn't until I changed the theme to something else and then back to my theme.

BTW, I found the code to change the navigation colors but no matter what I do I don't see them reflected in my theme. I've tried creating new pages, changing the template to something else and then back to mine... nothing seems to work.

Am I editing the right files?

Amy the blog comment font is changed in the file Blog.xml like anything else for the blog. The section you need to search for is:

"Comment Body"

Other aspects of the comments follow that pattern. For example:

Comment Author
Comment Date

"Comment Add A Comment" controls the actual text that reads, Add A Comment.

Those are off the top of my head so let me know if I got that wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's it. Another easy way to find all instances of comment styles is to just search for:

"Comment

Let me know if that doesn't do the trick.
