Tabouli Updates Posted

October 27, 2007

Well I got Leopard installed and running after some very annoying installation troubles. For any of you planning to upgrade, please read this next bit as it will save you one enormous headache and countless hours of troubleshooting.

If you have software from Unsanity installed on your computer, you’re going to need to delete some files off your machine before running the upgrade. There’s a huge bug with the Leopard installer that makes your machine hang, for some, endlessly, after the files are copied from the DVD. There’s a long, long thread about this in the support forums, but for your convenience, I’ll tell you now that you’re going to need to delete or temporarily move four files. They are:

/Library/PreferencePanes/Application Enhancer.prefpane

/Library/Frameworks/Application Enhancer.framework

/System/Library/SystemConfiguration/Application Enhancer.bundle

/Library/Preferences/com.unsanity.ape.plist

Read the thread at the Apple forums to educate yourself. But do this BEFORE attempting the upgrade or you will NOT be happy. I post this only for your awareness and convenience. Do your homework upfront.

Now,  I’ve added a browser-specific hack into the Tabouli CSS to accommodate Safari 3’s bugs. Since Opera appears to use the same web kit, this fix will fix visual problems in Opera as well. I also posted the BETA in its current version which is significantly expanded since the last version. This one introduces dark page background potential, glyph images for dark pages and color control over nearly every aspect of the theme. To pull off the dark page backgrounds and new image sets, I had to use PNG images specified in the CSS and I’m not aware of any PNG fix that can fix PNGs in IE6 when they’re specified via CSS. I still have to get one more paid iWeb theme working in iWeb 2.0 and then I can complete this newer version of Tabouli. It should be one more week I think, but this preview pretty much indicates where we’re heading.

Okay I’m in class all day Saturday but I believe both iWeb and Tabouli users have their fixes for Leopard. I will have my iPhone with me to catch email so if anyone finds something absolutely crucial, use the contact form to shoot me a note.

Hey Suz—just a quick overdue comment to say a big THANKS for posting this info…whoda thunk that APE could cause so much grief? And looking at the boards, it caused a LOT of grief! It also seems that using “upgrade” caused most of the issues…not so much with Archive and Install, and virtually none with Clean Install. Of course, the rule of the day (as usual) is ‘back up your stuff folks’ :)
SO…I’ve been out of pocket a bit lately and may have missed it…what kind of classes are you taking? or are you teaching them?
and how’s the guitar going? haven’t heard you mention that lately.
    Take care!!

Hey guys – glad to hear you avoided my debacle with the upgrade. Unsanity posted a fix the day after. If you’re on their mailing list, you likely got the notice to upgrade to the new versions they posted the day after. I should have noted that that problem did not occur for Intel machines – I think someone said that. I haven’t upgraded my Intel MBP yet. I only did my G5 desktop.

Macpug – long time! Hope you are well. Guitar – yes, I’m getting pretty good! I can play the blues really well. Right now I’m working on coordination between hands cuz my picking is still slow like a noobie. :-\

Hi Suzanne, As you are probably aware Tabouli Pro Beta 2 seems to have tab problems with RW3.6 and Leopard/Safari, in the RW preview mode. I need to update some sites and obviously would like to do it asap.
Your post heading above says ‘Tabouli Updates Posted’.
Does this mean you have posted updates to users and/or changed the themes on your site?
Or does it mean its a post of where you are at with Tabouli?
Just want to make sure I’m not waiting for updates that I should have.
    Cheers

No it means they were posted. You can go get them from the download area in your account. The production version has the hack for the Safari/Opera problem and so does the new version of the BETA. I believe you had the advanced version of the BETA already so the new portion of the code is the hack for the tab display.

I’m actually working on solidifying the 3.6 options now. I should have a production version with the 3.6 colortag support ready soon! :)

Good to hear from you again, as always.

I should mention too that I just posted an update to the beta. I had forgotten to update the internal theme name and the display names. Which might have prevented the theme from appearing in your theme selection window. Thanks to Rick for catching that.

Woohoo – tabs ouli sweet as!
    Thank you.

Had originally downloaded the theme after your Tabouli Post announcement, but noticed on checking the file version it was dated April 17, 2007 – which is same date as my installed original version. So figured it had not been modified.

As a general rule i would expect any app/theme/version etc with same name after mods, to have a different creation date to distinguish it from the original. Helps with identifying issues or problems between the two – just a thought.

Having said that, I should have listened to you ;-)

    Cheers

PS: Whenever I go to my favourite cafe i normally have side dish of tipili, which is Brazilian version of tabbouleh.
Very tasty and refreshing to combine with chicken and fish.
Problem is I cant get through the salad, without thinking at sometime of the theme.
I need to get over your subliminal name – help me!

Yeah in the flurry of the Leopard release and the upgrade problems I had, some of those details got missed.

Just an FYI regarding the expanded version (beta) some of those custom styles included are not complete yet. When I add new options to the theme, you have to go through every custom style and update the option to match the theme. All things in time.

Suzanne – just wondering if you have seen Kwix, the latest plug-in from Yourhead?

Would be interested in your comments with use in latest Tabouli Pro Beta.
