Solingo Bugs

October 4, 2007

Okay I have been utterly stumped by this problem with Solingo folks. I’m not going to spend any more time trying to uncover the root problem because all the pages with the problem are those that were generated for custom layouts. Ironically, the blog, which was hand-edited entirely, is the only page without the problem :-\

So frustrating.

Therefore I’m going to rebuild these pages using a different base template, the template I’m using for all other themes. I’ll do 1-2 a day inbetween work on the other themes and upload them each night so at least you have a few extra working pages bit by bit than having to wait for the entire thing.

For the time being, I have disabled Solingo from the store. I will re-enable it once all the pages are working correctly.

If you reeeeeeeeally want it, send me an email and we’ll get you set up.

    Oh BOTH! :)

You know, I was just about to come here and say, hold the phone… I might have discovered the issue, or a lead to it. I was rebuilding the page and found that I was not able to copy or paste the custom shapes! If I can’t copy or paste them, then iWeb might be having an issue dealing with them as objects on the page :-O It chokes if it doesn’t know how to handle something so I’m looking into that angle right now! More soon.

Now I’m certain that’s the problem! The custom shapes on the blog were copiable and pastable (are those words?) so I might solve this yet! Have to see the XML to see why the blog versions are different than the other pages.

DOH! I solved it :-O It worked!! Lord, if this isn’t a case of “stop trying and it will come” I don’t know what is.

The problem appears to be related to copying the custom shape from Keynote. I knew that an image was copied with it, but I removed all reference to that image in iWeb. Apparently iWeb maintains memory of it anyhow and it embedded a reference to that image in the XML, but it embedded a reference to nothing. I don’t know how to write that… it didn’t have the image or any information about it, yet it created a reference! Bizarre.

Anyway, the fix worked successfully on the Blank page and I’ll fix that on the other pages and have new files on the server shortly.

Wow, that one was really bothering me! What a relief :)
