Arcturus for iWeb 2.0 Released

October 4, 2007

Good afternoon folks, today I have Arcturus ready to go in 2.0 format, but this one looks a bit different and for 2.0 reasons. I’ll go over the details here so please read this. I’m looking for feedback as far as direction for Arcturus so please comment or send me an email with your thoughts.

First, there are two most obvious changes. One is that the fancy, custom layouts are not on the pages. We’ve discussed that issue since the beginning – all templates were affected by the inability to make custom layouts. But I was even more careful with Arcturus because of the bugs that the custom layouts created for Solingo. So, to be on the very safe side, the layouts here are pretty much default from an Apple theme.

I was able to put a “pod” on the blank page and testing proved it worked without issue, but that’s as far as I wanted to push it for now.

I included, in the 2.0 download, a folder full of the Arcturus images – there are numerous images in there that you can play with, buttons, alternate header colors and graphics, all the images to make the pods on the page, etc. Hopefully this will alleviate some of the trouble of having to rebuild layouts – not to mention, it’s kind of fun to create your page as you wish.

Second, the next most obvious change is the navigation menu. I’m not sure if you guys will like this change or not so I’m open to your thoughts on this. The structure of the templates and the custom layout issue made it risky to recreate the original navigation. This new approach to the nav bar opens up other options such as color. Take it for a spin and let me know what you think. I designed it so that you could basically put any color behind the nav bar as long as that color wasn’t so light that you couldn’t see the white text. If you want to try a different color, just edit the images in the theme’s shared folder or send me a note and I can whip some up for you.

Third, Arcturus was not designed to be duplicated as far as color. I changed things a bit to make that possible so you could see Arcturus Green or Arcturus Yellow, etc, in the future. I generally do that by request and will consider those after the remaining themes are complete.
