Unfortunately the actual shape of those image placeholders is embedded in the XML. The code to produce those is fairly ugly. You can't even hand-edit it. To create those, I had to create the custom shapes within a new template, then generated another template from that template to capture the code for the shape itself. Then I had to lift the code from that template and use it to create a custom path for an image placeholder in the Lightside template. Totally hair-brained but it worked :)

Not exactly what you wanted to hear though. There's no way to do what you describe until custom shapes become available in iWeb and only if Apple allows you to then mask an image placeholder with your custom shape. Probably not going to happen but you never know.

Okay, so I have a question about Lightside. Is there any way I can change the shapes on the puzzle page? Or is this buried so deep in the code that I can't get to it?

Inquiring minds want to know =)
