At this time, it’s still unknown if we’ll be able to create custom layouts for 2.0 themes. For 1.0, we had a script that could generate a template from a site domain file. The script recreated the layouts automatically in a matter of seconds. But Apple changed the architecture of iWeb and now the method we were using will not work. Apple broke up the code and placed it in various places and then stripped out key portions of the template as well.
The the only option we have now is to duplicate an Apple theme and move their stuff around on the page. It’s incredibly tedious to say the least as you have to manually change the X and Y positions of an object, only after you’ve found the object in over 6000 lines of code.
Each day we learn more about how the architecture works. There may be a chance we can recreate the tool that allows us to create custom layouts, but for the moment, we can’t and cannot predict if we ever will.
In the meantime, you can easily recreate any of the layouts you’ve seen in the past. There’s nothing special about them other than they were pre-assembled in the theme for you. With a little time and effort, you can create these simply by adding the text boxes and pictures to the pages yourself.
