What’s the basic difference between theme color variations?

September 8, 2007

In iWeb 1.0, if you remember, there was no way to change your hyperlink colors through the interface. You were stuck with the colors provided by the theme. When I started creating themes, I recognized this frustration and created variations of my themes with different hyperlink, and accent colors. Zones and Aerolite are the best examples. Those two themes come in a variety of color variations.

LinkIn iWeb 2.0, you no longer are stuck with the hyperlink colors specified in the template XML. You can change them easily using the hyperlink inspector. But even still, if the links in your favorite theme are red and you really want green, you have to change those links every time you create a new page from the template. It can be an irritation.
This is why I’ve continued to create the color variations of my themes, post iWeb 1.0. It’s really just a matter of convenience now. If I provide a color variation you know you’ll like, you can buy that variation of the theme. You can still change the link and accent colors, but at least there’s a greater chance you’re getting a color you like right from the start.

In iWeb 1.0 it was necessity. In iWeb 2.0, it’s just convenience.
