This question is related to the question about custom layouts. If you’ve followed the situation with 2.0, you know that, at the time this was written, we are not able to create custom layouts within 2.0 themes like we were in 1.0. None of the matching imagery is included in the pages such as the section heading background images in Aerolite for this reason.
First, let me just say that I will upload those images to the download areas soon. That way you can still incorporate them into your pages no matter what, but, here are a few techniques you may not be aware of that might save you time and effort when converting your site from 1.0 to 2.0.
If you were lucky enough to have read my blog before upgrading iLife, then you likely still have the old version of iWeb on your computer. The easiest way to recreate your site in iWeb 2.0 is to have the old version of iWeb open AND the new version open along side of it. Place them side by side if your monitor is wide enough. Then all you have to do is create a new page in iWeb 2.0 and drag and drop the page contents from your 1.0 site into that new page. That way all the imagery comes with it. This is the method I recommend because it ensures your pages are using the latest iWeb code. It may not be an issue, but as I’ve stated before, I like to be sure I’m always using the latest version of anything.
The other thing you can do is import your old site into 2.0. I’ve heard many complaints from people about this so I can’t guarantee this method is going to make you happy. However, many have done this with success so back-up your site first - burn it to DVD - then import it into iWeb 2.0 and see how it goes. If that works, all your pages will be there for you, including all the page imagery.
New pages will have to be created with the new 2.0 template (which won’t create the imagery) but you can copy and paste from your old pages if necessary. Also, don’t forget that you can right-click on any page and duplicate it, even blog entries! So use that feature and save yourself the time.
Hi Suzanne,
do you know if anybody has discovered if your additional “Picture Frames” can be manually installed in iWeb 2?; or any way manually to embed them?
Thank you.
Hello Josep, I haven’t had a chance to look into this yet but I believe Apple abandoned the image-based approach to framing pictures and instead, uses vector-based imagery to produce those picture frames. I know the picture frames pack will not install because iWeb 2.0’s architecture is entirely different.
You’ll have to give me a bit more time to work through all this before I can know for sure what the status of the frames are.
