I suppose many of you don’t know who Elliot Yamin is do you? I’m a pretty big American Idol fan. Yamin was 2006’s third-place winner - a truly soulful voice who was better all-around than either Kat McPhee or Taylor Who? Elliot Yamin is the next Al Jarreau.
Now I’m not a fan of either R&B or Jazz, but Yamin’s album which was released this past March is actually very good. Fans of R&B or Jazz might say it’s excellent. It does have those elements of production that every pop album has - the “method” to create a successful song is so recognizable these days - but it’s barely noticed on this album. I was actually impressed.
There are only two complaints I have and that’s:
1) enough with the blabbering on and on about relationships. Lord, there’s more to life. Then,
2) I’m growing weary of Generation Y’s inability to spell “all right”. If I see another “alright” I might fall over dead. Here we have a song title on a soon-to-be platnium record with an incorrect spelling. Arg.
Despite those two things, this is a very good album - great for those who like that genre of music. Yamin is a brilliant voice and I hope to see him grow into his own in the coming years.
