You know I am just surprised actually that I haven’t gotten more emails about this… in the history of my template-making artisanship, I have only ever received three emails from Rapidweaver fans, telling me I should make themes for that application as well. The first two emails I got were probably last May and then maybe July, can’t remember. The third email came just the other day.
The first two times I looked at the application and then my eyes glazed over. I’ve been hand-coding web sites since 1995 - editors schmeditors. I used Dreamweaver to write code for a while, but not for the wyswig aspect, just cuz you could store your snippits in it. So one would have thought that if I looked at RW, I’d be basically in my element. Guess not. After a few months of iWeb, your brain rewires itself and then, anywhere you look, you think drag and drop, drag and drop.
RW is not drag and drop. It took more than five minutes to figure out what the heck to do so I never pursued it.
But as they say, three times is the charm. When I got the latest email about this topic, I thought, okay, things are going well, I’m expanding my work, blah blah blah, this must be a sign from the Universe. So once again I opened RapidWeaver and dug in. I still wanted to close it after five minutes. It seems horribly restrictive to anyone who has used iWeb, but you kind of have to remove yourself from your brain for a bit to fit back into that traditional, code-minded approach. After that it started to sink in.
So, long story longer, but not too much longer. I was able to dig into the template structure and I realized that this app is structured very similarly to that of WordPress or other blog software. It’s entirely CSS-based theming. I love WordPress for that reason so suddenly it dawned on me that porting themes to RW should not be a big deal.
Now you know what I’m working on ;-) I also have two more Zones templates ready and a new design in the works that’s rich and spicy.
Hello,
I am a RW user wanting to know if you had any idea when you would be releasing any RW themes.
