If you’re having a hard time figuring out how to make your life more interesting, how to get out and live, go read about this guy. Meet Andy Campbell over at theandycampbell.com. Andy was paralyzed from the waist down in a rock climbing accident about two years ago. The description alone, of what was going through his head as he was falling, is something that will amaze you. This guy puts his mind to his experiences let me tell you that. Despite breaking just about everything in his body, he saved his own life by (essentially) planning the impact while he was falling.
After numerous months in the hospital, bench-pressing pillows, he left to pursue a new life. From his site: “With a focused and determined attitude never faltering, Andy was skiing in Sweden within 3 months of leaving hospital, and became the first ever wheelchair user to paraglide from the 6000ft Babadag Mountain in Southern Turkey just 16 months after being resuscitated in surgery following his climbing accident.”
Andy has something important to share for anyone who may still be struggling with the limitations of their disabilities and any of you struggling without disabilities. It’s really about where you point your mind and finding ways to achieve what you want. I was particularly humored by his comments about not being stubborn with the wheelchair… taking it wherever it would go (see picture to the left) but also leaving it behind when necessary and finding alternative ways to get things done without it.
