Which one of you Mac zealots is claiming Microsoft Vista uses stolen OSX features???

December 19, 2006

I’d like to think that the Mac community is made up of nicer users - well based on my experience, I know that’s true. But who among us could be spreading such rumors that Microsoft has stolen key OSX features and made them a part of Vista? For shame! David Pogue, NY Times journalist puts an end to this once and for all. <evil laugh>

  • Okay okay…. I guess this proves that all we zealots need to apologize to Bill? Sorry, Bill…….NOT!!

  • ahh - david pogue is right! windows vista is filled with own innovations. you cannot trace or compare anything to mac os x.

i mean it looks so great with the search feature, the gadget part or even the photo software - that you really want to get it! i will buy it - BBBBBBBBBBUUUUUUUUUUUT, its not necessary, my good old mac had these features for 5 years and is still in the future!

well mac community - we rock - windows, do what the little man on the WWDC 06 said!

    regards,

    max

  • As far as I can tell Vista was in the works loooong before Mac OSX…so Apple probably is the thief, LOL!!!!!!! ;D

  • BLASPHEMY! We’re going to revoke your zealot status for that one Jabberwock! :D LOL I’ve never laughed so hard. I’m going right out and buying the upgrade to OSX the minute it comes out.

  • What’s the saying? Oh, ya, ‘he who hesitates is lost’. Sounds like Microsoft hesitated if they started Vista long before Max OSX….results??? They lose.

  • That is so funny! Wasn’t this version supposed to be called longhorn? I can remember going out to buy a PC and the sales person told me to wait until 2006 when longhorn comes out. He told me it was going to be the best yet and much better than mac. I didn’t know anything about mac at that point so I was very excited. Well after waiting a long time I decided to take a peek into the mac store in Boston. I walked out of there with the 17inch iMac, gave my g/f’s brother my PC and became a “mac junkie”. Windows has got to stop kidding themselves. Seeing this made my day :)

  • I couldn’t believe it either. That was actually the first glimpse of Vista I’ve seen and it still looks cluttered and burdened with 10 billion settings and things that can go wrong. Yuck. Not going back EVER. I remember (after my adjustment period) thinking what a joy it was to work on a Mac - literally it was a joy. It made me feel like making stuff LOL… so ironic isn’t it. :)

  • Mike,
I think you are right but I was told “wait till SC comes out”….a clerk said to me back in 1997. So I said, “SC, what’s that?” And the clerk said, “they’re calling it Swiss Cheese because it has a lot of holes in it.” So I waited and waited and now…voila…it’s finally here. Hallelujah!!!!!

Now I also recall reading a story about that time (1996) and they were going to call their new system after cattle. That first release was going to be Longhorn. The second and third were going to be Angus and Brahman. It was going to be a Bovine Series. I have no idea what happened but by 1997 the OS was being called Cheese names. Apparently Vista is some sort of Spanish cheese. Oh well…go figure.

  • Another funny story about windows. I went to a local college recently to sign up for some classes. I was looking for classes on the flash studio 8 and some basic web design language. After looking at the classes ( none of which had any interest to me ) I asked a very simple question, “do you have any classes using macs?” The reply was, “I didn’t know mac’s could do web design, we only use windows. In fact I don’t know anybody with a mac.” Wow, I died and told them I refused to fight with windows software anymore, and I would find a school that teaches on macs. I couldn’t believe it. :)

  • We use Macs at home. My sweetie is burdened with using a PC for his programming work at the office. He comes home completely wigged out over all the crash and burns and restarts he is forced to do each day in order to do his work. Finally talked management into letting him work from home one day a week since he has the same LABVIEW program here at home on the Mac. He’s tried to convince them to let him use a Mac at the office but they say it’s too expensive…. Let’s say he makes $100 per hr. Considering all the times his Windows Operating System has gone down over the past 2 years, I do believe they would have come out ahead paying for an iMac rather than have him getting paid the $100 per hour waiting for the PC to come back up. Some corporations just don’t get it.
