How To Uninstall iWeb Templates

December 6, 2006

This article applies to iWeb 1.0 themes ONLY.

If you’ve ever wanted to do this, here’s how:

  1. Right click or Control click on your iWeb icon and select Show Package Contents from the pop-up menu. This will display a new Finder window with one folder in it.
  2. Open the following folders: /Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Templates/ If your language is something other than english, then open your own language folder, NOT English.
  3. In the Templates folder, you’ll find a file named TempalatesInfo.plist.
  4. Open that file with TextEdit (or a code editor if you want).
  5. Use Command + F to search for: sortedThemes. This will take you nearly to the bottom of the file to the section with that name.
  6. Then scroll down slowly, looking for the template name you want to delete. If it’s name, for example is, Travel, then look for the lines that include Travel. There will be eight lines that make up the entry for the Travel template. You should be able to see the pattern clearly. To remove the template, remove these eight lines being very careful not to remove more or fewer than the eight you see here.

    displayName
    Travel
    keyName
    Travel
    version
    1.0 Themes

That’s all you have to do to remove the template from your view in iWeb. If you want to remove the template files as well, they’re located here:

/Contents/Resources/Shared/

Just delete them or drag them to the trash as you normally would. Then the template is fully removed from your system.
