Aerolite seems to be a hot template for those of you looking to build small organization web sites or even business sites. Since most of the planet is still in the fog about superior operating systems and browsers, I’ve created a special version of Aerolite that uses all JPG images for the header, body background, browser background and footer. These replace the current PNG images used in the first version.
I also removed nearly every drop shadow and gradient line in this version. As you know, any effect you apply to a photo, i.e. shadows, rotation, borders, opacity - all of these cause iWeb to generate a PNG image rather than the JPG or GIF you might have dropped into your page. I’ve taken the steps to help you avoid the PNG issue as much as possible with this version, but you’ll have to take it the rest of the way by minimizing your use of all the known effects that product PNGs on your pages.
PNG is a great tool and if you’re just running a small family site or a site that caters to Mac folks, the original PNG version will always be the most stunning. However, if you need to maximize consistency across the widest number of browsers and operating systems, the you should use the JPG version.
Both versions are now on the server and are already in your download area waiting for you.

Enjoy!
An excellent way to meet ‘em halfway!
just bought areolite orange. Nice design, although I’m not found of the background used. I understand I need the .png version, but where can I find this? site says it’s already in my download aera?
also, why is .jpg recomended for other OS or browers? I use iWeb original templates, and haven’t experienced problems with IE or Firefox so far.
Internet Explorer is not capable of handling PNG images. Rather than display the transparent nature of a PNG image, IE displays a white background which totally defeats the purpose of using a PNG image. There’s a scripted fix that Apple included with iWeb 1.1.1 but that script only works if the image is NOT specified via the CSS and iWeb specifies nearly all its background images via CSS so there’s the issue. If you use PNG images as backgrounds to your browser, page or any shape/object, then IE will puke on it.
The JPG versions for Aerolite alleviate this issue by using JPG versions of the header, page and footer backgrounds.
