Well my friends, guess what today is. Well, yes, it’s “turn your clocks back” day, true, but not what I was thinking. Try again. Today is Mystic Sunday - a new page in the journals at 11Mystics.com - a new tradition that begins now.
Originally when I created this domain, I intended it to be the home of my mystic work - a place where I could write what I know, but as usual, my alter ego Geek butted in stating, “Hey Mystic, I can make this look cool!” Mystic replied, “You’re most welcome to create a beautiful space.” But Geek tends to be a bit obsessive you see and Geek hasn’t really gotten out of the way since I started! Well, I put Geek on forced sabbatical after my trip to Peru and for most of the summer. Now Geek and I are trying to find a happy medium, to co-exist together. Perhaps if I succeed, I will then be “Cool Mystic”… the fusion of two energies that come to speak what they know.
Last night as I wrapped up my work, I knew that today would be the first Mystic Sunday. Sometimes you just know. As I climbed into bed, I glanced at the glowing green digital clock that sits upon my night stand. It’s face beamed at me, displaying not only the time, but the time at which I had set my alarm the day before. Those two times were 1:11 and 11:11. I laughed and spoke out loud to the Universe or to whomever was with me in that moment, “Yes, yes, tomorrow we begin!” This truly was, as it always has been, a magical sign that yes, today most certainly is, Mystic Sunday.
I began seeing the number 11 about two years ago. You say, “Silly, you learned the number 11 in kindergarten!” Well you’re right about that. But I mean, I started seeing 11’s everywhere. Every time I looked at the clock, it was 3:11 or 1:11 or 8:11 or 11:11. Every bank statement was $111,111.11 okay just kidding. But everything I saw was 11 something. The day I picked up my second puppy was 6/11. It was also the day I viewed the house I bought and the address of that house is has 11’s in it! Coincidence you say? Well I don’t believe there is such a thing, but as you read this, I hereby state that you too will begin to see 11’s! Ha! Now we’re both cursed :D
11 is the number of mastery
611 is symbolic of me - one who integrates heaven and earth by way of the masters, by way of mastery
Well that all sounds fuzzy and foo foo now doesn’t it. But metaphors are a good thing - you do recall the story from above don’t you? Mystic and Geek Try to Work Together? Heaven and Earth - the integration. So here we go… in no particular order, meaning, anything I write from here on out, likely has no order - I have no agenda other than to write.
Three things crossed my awareness yesterday. Right now, all I recall is the third thing. It was spurred by an email from one of you… an email that said something like, “… I love your work, it’s simple but effective…” I have received numreous emails from you folks with similar sentiments and each time I hear this, part of me thinks, “Hey, it IS what people want! Wow!” You see, somehow we all grow up thinking we’re not the best at something - someone is always better at it than me. I’m certainly not the best graphic artist nor am I the best site designer. I’m not the best musician, I’m not the best programmer and I’m not the best mystic either. But what I am, is still just fine. There are hundres of people out there who actually are happy with “just what I am”.
“AH!” resonds Mystic… “This is good wisdom you see… as all people live with these self-prepared boundaries. And when the inspiration arrives, how will these boundaries help or hinder one’s success?” Geek only half heard that - Geek is just happy people like his efforts. Yes Geek is a male energy - very yang-like. He hears Mystic rambling along in his right ear, but doesn’t often pay all that much attention. Mystic just smiles back at Geek, knowing full-well that Geek is on his way to becoming one with higher wisdom.
Where was I? Yes, so I realized, that it does not matter what you are, that you aren’t the best at whatever it is that you think you are, or that you do. You do not need to be the best at anything. There are plenty of people out there who will find you quite useful or productive or efficient or creative or inspirational or (insert favorite adjectives here). You already are everything you need to be right now. The question is, are you exercising all that you are in this moment? Or are you letting your own self-prepared boundaries prevent you from that success?
Some of you may be familiar with the book, The Artist’s Way, by Julia Cameron. My good friend Jill hosted an Artist’s Way class this summer which was truly a joy as far as Mystic was concerned. Geek was off somewhere lying in the sun I think - not sure, but he took a rest. Anyway, somewhere in that book, there was a quote that went something like this:
Those who succeed are rarely the smartest or the most talented, they’re simply those with the audacity to put their work out there for others to see.
If there were nothing more to that class than that quote, then I still would have received (likely) the most important lesson from my 12 weeks in that class: Just Do It. Okay well that doesn’t exactly sum up the wisdom does it. It’s more like: You already are everything you need, in order to be, right now. You already have every tool you need in order to do what you do, right now. Just do it. Have the audacity to put your work out there. People will find you and enjoy what you are and what you do.
I think we’ll leave it at that for today. Digest. Enjoy Mystic Sunday.

Well my “mystic sunday” wasn’t going all that great until I read that quote. Isn’t it the truth! Thank you for sharing, and I may have to go pick up the book to read. Keep up the good work!
Mike
Isn’t that something? I read that quote and instantly many things became clear. The book I mention, The Artist’s Way, is kind of a workbook actually. It’s a 12-chapter book meant to be read over 12 weeks, where each week you focus on another area where we often fail to serve our creative nature. The author’s wisdom is spot-on. She’ll have you bug-eyed and saying, “Ah ha!” It’s more of a personal, introspective process than simply a good-read. She also requires that every morning you get up and write three pages of something - anything - as long as it’s three pages. You’ll say, “What???” But let me tell you, the process of writing those pages will work miracles. I can guarantee you that. All in all it was a fantastic experience - one that I really should continue now that class is done and the book is completed.
Very good post ;-)
I am going to keep this in mind from now on
Hey Paul how are you? :) Glad you like that - I’ll write more of that this coming Mystic Sunday. It’s the MO around here from now on.
