iWeb 1.1.1 Update Released

May 26, 2006

Hello folks – I see that Apple released 1.1.1 today. I’ve been away from my office all day so I have not tested this myself, but many of you have written to say that you simply need to reinstall the templates using the new 1.1 AquaPRO installers. You should be back in action! Again! :)

Since we’re on that subject… again, I’ll make a few points here about important installation notes:

  1. Please do not use the original 1.0 installers anymore. The new 1.1 installers will work on either version of iWeb, including 1.1.1

  2. You can try the installers on your Panther or Jaguar machine, but we suspect they will fail. Some Panther owners are telling me they work fine however. Tiger is the only OSX version we know will work. You have to manually install the templates otherwise.

  3. Close iWeb before installing. Technically you can have it open, but if you forget to close and reopen after installation (so iWeb reads the new templates), you’ll send me an email wondering why the installer failed ;-)

  4. You must be logged in as the administrator of your computer. Authenticating as an admin during installation will NOT work.

  5. FileVault will cause the installers to fail. Disable it long before you try to install AquaPRO.

  6. We’ve found that some of the new Intel Macs are so dang fast that the AppleScript used in the installer can’t keep up! Finder chokes and throws an error :-O Lucky you! I have REALLY slow versions of the installers and I will send these to you if we determine this is the problem you’re having on your machine. Cyclosaurus says it takes about 20 seconds to install one language – not too bad considering.

If you encounter problems, errors, or if you can’t see the templates after installation, send me an email with the following information and we’ll figure it out:

  • OSX version
  • iWeb version
  • Was FileVault running or any other virus scanners or file utilities?
  • Were you logged in AS the administrator of the computer?
  • Did you use the new AquaPRO 1.1 installers?
  • Are you able to see the different categories in the template selector dropdown list? Apple has two categories, 1.0 Themes and 1.1 Themes. I create a new category called 11 Mystics.
  • Did you run the installers while iWeb was open? IF yes, did you close and reopen iWeb after installation?

Answers to these quick questions will help us narrow the problem. So far I only have two outstanding installation issues, one might be FileVault, the other is likely a zippy fast MacBook Pro and I should know the answers to those two soon.

Cheers!
Suzanne

P.S. Ken Drake and I have a new template collaboration in the works for all the sci-fi nuts out there. This will be a free template and we’re going to open this one up to the community. More details soon. I should be able to finish it this weekend :D

I’ve just run the whole shebang of installers on 1.1.1 and it all went without a hitch. Grateful thanks to Suz and to Hac for a great job on this.

Now I have to decide if it’s any benefit to install my own template using the 1.1 approach or if I should just dump the lot straight into iWeb/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Templates.
